Whatever the season there's always plenty to do and see in South Lakeland. Windermere, Bowness and Ambleside are probably the most popular and well known of the towns here, with something for everyone. There are indoor attractions, such as historic houses or castles, The World of Beatrix Potter or Brockhole National Park Centre and a whole host of outdoor attractions, such as sailing, wind surfing, fell walking, cycling , pony trekking, beautiful gardens to visit. Of course, there is always the magnificent scenery ready to be photographed, painted or simply enjoyed.

Other places to visit include Kendal, gateway to the Lake District and home of the World famous Kendal Mintcake or Ulverston, birthplace of Stan Laurel of Laurel & Hardy, where you will find a delightful museum dedicated to the comedians. Throughout the area are small towns and villages, each with their own character.

For those who love peace and quiet there are excellent opportunities for walking in valleys like Longsleddale and Kentmere or on the Furness Fells.
