Other places to visit include Kendal, gateway to the Lake District and home of the World famous Kendal Mintcake or Ulverston, birthplace of Stan Laurel of Laurel & Hardy, where you will find a delightful museum dedicated to the comedians. Throughout the area are small towns and villages, each with their own character.

For those who love peace and quiet there are excellent opportunities for walking in valleys like Longsleddale and Kentmere or on the Furness Fells.
